When my mother's dance company "Oasis" played the "Mahrajan" in the sixties there was a sensational, talented Arabic girl of about ten years old who was on the bill. If our old color slides of the event have not deteriorated we may have a picture of her one day. You could tell from the pictures even that she was great-had great style, etc. This event was held in Marlton NJ. Her name was "Sultona."

I wonder if Lee Ali or someone from that general vicinity would know if she kept dancing?

Let us know!

    Hello Aziza!

I turned pro in 1976 and there was no Sultona in the Jersey/Philly area at that time. But If Johanna worked with her in the 60's then she could've left the area by the time I came on the scene. Too bad... sounds like I missed seeing a rare child prodigy.

I have been very busy preparing for upcoming travel and shows, but I do intend to circle back and contribute to the Greektown discussion that Norma began on another thread.

Take care, Aziza. Hope you find some with info on Sultona.

Thank you Lee. I will try to photograph a Tayoun newspaper with the pictures of the stars of the Mahrajan. We're hoping our color slides of the event are still intact and maybe one day can preserve them. Sultona was a lovely, plump little girl. So Arabic...had so much grace and style. She looked amazing in photos-dark skin with a green costume, I think.
