Re: Upcoming video/lectures on Egyptian dance history & culture
Fri, October 12, 2007 - 7:54 AMI've gotten to sit in on two of Shira's video/history seminars (well, last time I caught bits and pieces because I was busy with the grand opening) and I really encourage dancers to take these. It really gives insight to the history of this style of dance. All of my Divas who took the 20th Century Egyptian Dance in Cinema class raved about it!

Re: Upcoming video/lectures on Egyptian dance history & culture
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 7:54 PMHi Eve! It has crossed my mind, but there's one issue that stands in the way: getting permissions from the copyright owners to include clips from their movies in a tangible form. The "fair use" provision of U.S. copyright law allows small bits of a piece to be used in an educational context, such as in a lecture. But distributing something on digital media is an entirely different matter. I don't even know where I would begin to find a lawyer with sufficient knowledge of Egyptian intellectual property issues to be effective AND knowledge of how to negotiate with Egyptians to get a good price. If I can ever figure out how to solve that problem, I might consider creating a DVD documentary, but until then I'll stick with lectures! -
