Does anyone know the history of how belly dance came about in Lebanon? What the style is (like what moves and props) and what the costume looks like? I cannot find any valid information online about it. Any one know about it, or does anyone know any resources i can go to?

Re: Interested in Lebanese Bellydance
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 2:18 PMThere is a DVD about Lebanese belly dance sold by Meissoun. She's here on tribe, and her web site is meissoun.ch . She's in Switzerland, but I'm sure she'll ship anywhere in the world.
The dancer Suha Deeb is in Lebanon, and sometimes posts both here on tribe and also on bhuz.com . In fact, there's a great thread on bhuz that she started called something like "Lebanese belly dance is not a fusion of Turkish and Egyptian".

Re: Interested in Lebanese Bellydance
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 7:10 PMAradia, from Las Vegas, just taught a workshop here in Orlando and she demonstrated Lebanese style dancing as well as others. She is a second generation belly dancer with an authentic heritage. Contacting her might be helpful. She was very well informed and quite nice.

Wed, May 28, 2008 - 8:57 AMWe have a very talented local artist named Margo Abdo O'Dell. She's an awesome dancer and her family is all from Lebanon. She even throws in a little debke once and a while.
Here's her website:

Thu, May 29, 2008 - 7:17 AMI've never taken one of Margo's classes, but I really like her video Tajdeed and I enjoyed seeing her perform at an event in California a few years back. I also enjoyed chatting briefly with her. Now that I'm living in the Midwest, I hope to see more of her!
