From Eric Petersons Blog:
Well-loved Boston musician Roger Krikorian sadly passed away August 10, 2007 and will be missed very much.
Roger was a main fixture in the Middle Eastern music scene in Boston for many years, a well respected person in the Armenian community as well as in music.
I met Roger for the first time earlier this summer when he let me sit in with his band at St. James Armenian church picnic. It was pure joy to play this music as it touches me very deeply. Roger was a very nice person to meet and I enjoyed playing music with him very much that day.
Thank you Roger Krikorian for all that you gave to many people for many years.
May your soul always be divine.

Re: Roger Krikorian Passes Aug 10, 2007
Sat, September 1, 2007 - 8:42 AMBoth my mother Johanna and I worked in Boston. The area produced many wonderful musicians and bands over the years. Older musicians were and are truly the best. I checked out the youtube clip of Roger playing and singing "Kalamatiano" Greek line dance and I'm so glad you posted a link. This is truly the beautiful music that I am used to in the belly dance world and one more reason to lament the fact that many today try to change or "re-mix" our traditional music with other beats that do not fit.
It was also interesting to see the "guest book" and notice Artie Barsamian there. Artie had a wonderful band-and wonderful that Roger Krikorian worked with him. I was recently thrilled to find the album, "The New Seventh Veil" and add to our collection. "The Seventh Veil" was my mother's first belly dance record and it is really timeless and thrilling music.
I was also thrilled that the youtube link for Roger's performance brought up many other finds that pertain to Armenian and Greek Belly Dance (tsiftetelia). Everyone should check it out and explore this music. It would be a revelation for them.
Does anyone know who the musicians are who are playing with Roger on the "Kalamatiano," (clarinet, oud, kanoun, etc?). If anyone can name them, I would like to know.
