Hello! I am looking for people in Eugene, Oregon (or willing to come to Eugene) who are interested in being Points of Contact for dancers who are out of the area. I have to get rid of all the back issues of Habibi. There are are thousands of magazines and over ten years of Habibi Magazine are represented in these boxes. This includes the issues published by Shareen el Safy and Jennifer James-Long, from the early '90's until 2006. They new owner in New York City cannot ship and store them and so they are still in Eugene, OR and I have been instructed to recycle them. I cannot bring myself to simply put them in a recycle bin when I've known this magazine since I was a little kid, then owned and published it myself.

I do not want anyone to make money off of the magazines. I feel that this is one of the most important aspects of the give-away process. Since leftovers are going to end up in a recycle bin, they should be distributed to as many people within the dance community as possible.

THERE ARE RULES TO THE GIVEAWAY. SO PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POSTING.

DATE: June 2nd and 3rd (Saturday & Sunday)
TIME: 9am-5pm Saturday, 9am - 3pm Sunday
PLACE: 620 Horn Lane, Eugene, OR
Google Link: maps.google.com/maps m=1
NOTE: Do not come early!

I am posting this on Bhuz, but I would also like to see someone post this message in its entirety on the MED list, Tribe, and any other relevant place to get the word out.

I understand that being in Oregon means that I am far away from most of the bellydance community. The other complication is that I don't have the time to organize and ship magazines to everyone who wants them. So I have devised a way to distribute them in the fairest way I can think of.

FOR LOCAL PEOPLE WHO CAN COME TO EUGENE:

- I will allow people, who come in-person, to take ONE ISSUE OF EACH MAGAZINE for themselves. I will put your name on a tablet when you arrive.

- If you want to bring an email from a friend, and not be a major Point of Contact, that is okay.

- If you are going to be able to come to Eugene and would like to be a "Point of Contact" for other people far away, you need to post your intention on this thread on Bhuz so people far away can contact you. Please include your 1. name and 2. email and 3. the day & time you will come to the giveaway so people far away can decide who to contact. Obviously there will be more magazines to chose from on Saturday than on Sunday.

If you are a Point of Contact, come to me on that weekend with:
1. The email(s) from out of town folks, and make sure the 4 points are included in each letter (see below)
2. Enough space in your car to accommodate the magazines
3. Boxes to hold the magazines for each person. A complete set would fill a 15" x 11" base box that is 10-12 inches high. The large format magazines that Shareen printed is the reason the box base has to be so big.

FOR PEOPLE TOO FAR AWAY OR TOO BUSY TO COME IN PERSON:

- If you cannot come in person, you can send an email to a Point of Contact -- someone who is going to be there. They will bring an email on behalf of you. This note will entitle you to one copy of each available issue of the magazine. You will have to coordinate the box and shipping with the person picking up your magazines.

- I will keep a printed copy of your email. This will help make sure that no-one uses more than one contact person to get more magazines than allowed. Like I said, my purpose is to get the magazines into as many hands as possible.

- If you are sending an email to a local Point of Contact, please include:
1. Your legal name
2. Your dance name
3. Your mailing address
4. Your phone number (in case we have question while collecting your magazines)
5. The magazine issues you want (who was on the cover, or the number of the issue is fine).
6. Note: please expect to pay your Point of Contact for both the box and the shipping

There is one issue of the magazine that I will not be stingy with. I have over 1,000 copies of it! So I may throw an extra issue or two into your mix so you can give it to friends if you want to.

Any left over copies of the magazine will be recycled. So please PASS THE WORD and hopefully we won't have to do that.

As I conclude this message, I only feel that I need to emphasize that this kind of giveaway will never happen again with Habibi, and these issues will never be printed again. So please take special care of the ones you get. There are generations of dancers in the future who will benefit from their contents. They truly are collectors items at this point and it's sad to see the end of them. You will be able to look back and remember the debates, the issues, and what a uproar it caused when Kathy Smith was put on the cover.

I look forward to the opportunity to touch base with those of you who do come. You can come bid farewell to this magazine that many of us have known for 33 years.

If you want to stick around and have a potluck, we might be able to arrange this if there is enough interest and schedules aren't too crazy. Let's discuss it.

Please drop me a message if you have questions.
