Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the VHS of "Ibrahim Farrah Presents: Nadia Gamal New York Workshop 1989"? I have searched the internet but can't seem to find anything. Any suggestions or does anyone have a copy they'd like to sell? I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Azara, there's talk of reissuing this as a DVD, but I'm not sure when this is going to happen. You might check with Mher at Hollywood Music. Sorry, I couldn't part with mine....

yes, this MUST be reissued on DVD.........i'm curious- for those of you who have a copy- what exactly is covered in this workshop? Is it a choreography, specific style, props, etc? Do you find it a good teaching tool? How was Nadia's English? I read somewhere that she spoke 7 or 8 different languages fluently. What a shame to the world of belly dance that she is no longer with us! Or i guess i should say Oriental Dance (as Nadia insisted it be called, according to an article i read).

its a choreography, her English is great. What I like most about it, is just getting a feeling about her personality, the Way she teaches and what she says...and its as close as we can get to taking a ws with her, its just precious. i will have to get it out and watch again soon.

I know it's out of print. My copy is wearing thin, so I hope they re-release it.

Maybe you could copy the original to another VHS tape or DVD, then store it?
Just use the copy to work from.

Actually, I asked "Mr. Latifa" to transfer a bunch of my old Bobby workshop videos to DVD some time ago, just to preserve them. I feel like they should be in a safe deposit box!! ;-)

Can somebody help me out with this -- I bought this video from Phaedra, only it was a PAL version. ($55 and it was all she had.) I thought I would be able to easily find someone to transfer it to NTSC for me, but I can't.

I don't know if this is technically illegal or not, but if I could prove to you that I actually OWN this video (like, I'll take a picture of me holding it or something) then could somebody send me a NTSC version copy? I'm not asking for anything I haven't already bought -- I just can't play mine! I took it to a transfer service and they said because it was copy-protected they couldn't transer it. :(

I've had this for more than a year and it's KILLING me to not be able to watch it. If you can help in any way, please message me (if you know of a transfer service who can do this, that would be great too!)

OH don't you hate that? I've had local dancers here end up with Horacio & Beata DVDs that won't work on American DVD players and I thought DVD was universal!

On another note, I managed to video tape two TV shows, "Criminal Minds" and part of "Medium" over top of Ragia Hassan Oriental Technique, Volume 1.
            I am sick about it.
            :(

DVD is definitely not universal. The video image that is stored on the disk is still either in NTSC format or PAL format. NTSC/PAL/SECAM all refer to engineering definitions of what the television is expecting. In other words, how many frames per second, how many lines of little dots to create the image on screen, etc.

The television really doesn't know whether the image it's receiving comes from a broadcast signal, a VCR with a VHS tape, or a DVD player. All it knows is that it is receiving certain number of frames per second, certain image size, etc., and it displays what it receives.

Most of the NEWER DVD players in the U.S. are smart enough to read both NTSC and PAL, and if it's PAL, convert it to NTSC before feeding it to the television. All of the DVD players I currently have are able to do this. However, many older DVD players are either unable to read PAL at all, or if they do read it they pass it through to the television as PAL, and the television rejects it. I used to have an old DVD player that had this problem.

Seeing your message in tribe about this video reminded me that you had emailed me asking whether I could convert it. Your request came at a time when I was swamped (and my hard disk was maxed out from other waiting-to-be-processed videos lying around on it), so I couldn't at the time.

However, I've cleared up the things that posed an obstacle at the time. If you're still interested in having the video moved to NTSC, I could do it for you now. The resulting thing I'd created for you would be a DVD rather than a VHS tape, because that's what's easiest to do with my equipment setup.

Let me know if you'd still like me to convert it for you.
